Recently, Honda has unveiled their Insight Concept which is powered by a hybrid powertrain at the 2008 Paris Motor Show. The car is powered by a 1.3-liter IMA (Integrated Motor Assist) system which has been extensively modified to reduce its cost and weight.
The Insight will be offered as a 5-door hatchback with seating for five passengers and built on a newly developed platform. The compact control unit and the battery are installed beneath the boot space in order to give the vehicle a low center of gravity and the practicality of a conventionally powered hatchback.
According to Honda, even though with the reduction of cost, the quality of the Insight will not be compromised and its engineers have to find more intelligent cost reduction solutions. Honda targeted the CO2 emissions and fuel economy of the Insight are similar to the existing Civic Hybrid.
